The contest is open to anyone who belongs to one of the following categories:
i. Professional designers and artists living in China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan)
ii. Students in their final year at a design, architecture, plastic arts or applied arts school living in China. (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan)
Candidates can compete individually or as a team (maximum 4 people). Candidates must confirm that they are the sole authors of their project. Projects must be original contributions which have not been previously developed on the market or in the history of design.

Each candidate is allowed to apply for several multiple categories. The number of project in the same category is however limited to one per candidate.

The “Organizer Committee” refers to the Roche Bobois Design Award- 2009 China organizers, including both Organizer and Executive Organizer.
The word “Candidate” refers to an individual or a team who applied for the Roche Bobois Design Award-2009 China and has submitted his or her project to the committee.
The word “Project” refers to the original work presented to the organiser committee by the candidate.
The word “Awarded Project” refers to all selected projects, which was nominated or won one of the Winning Awards or Student Awards.
The word “Winner” refers to the project selected for the Professional Designers, Artists or Student awards.
The word “Contest” refers to Roche Bobois Design Award-2009 China
The following terms are listed clearly on the contest’s official website and application forms. All applying candidates must read these terms and accept them when registering online and when submitting their projects.
i. Intellectual Property Rights
The candidates must confirm that they have complete and exclusive copyrights of the project submitted to the Roche Bobois Design Award-2009 China. They must confirm that their projects was never presented for any form of commercial development and never used internationally, nor have they authorized any third party to do so.
The candidates need to make sure that their projects do not breach any laws or regulations of the People’s Republic of China, or infringe any third party’s intellectual property rights or other legal rights. In case of any infringement, the candidates must undertake legal liability by themselves.
Each candidate will remain the ownership of his project and thus, of the rights relating thereto. It will be the candidate’s responsibility to provide the best protection for his creation. In this respect, the organiser committee disclaims any liability in the event of loss caused to the candidate due to insufficient, irregular or invalid protection.
During the whole procedure of the Roche Bobois Design Award-2009 China, the candidates are not authorized to put their projects into any form of commercial or artistic development, nor have they the right to authorize any third party to do so.
All winners by virtue of their participation in the Roche Bobois Design Award-2009 China:
- Agree that the prototypes are being retained and displayed by the organizer committee without any limitation of time and without the right to any remuneration.
- Agree to grant Roche Bobois the priority of commercial exploitation of the project for a period of two years running from the date of the award ceremony. During this period, and in the event of a project receiving a proposal from a third party to market its project, the candidate-winner concerned undertakes to inform Roche Bobois as soon as possible via registered post with proof of receipt, specifying the terms of the offer. Within thirty days of receipt of this letter, Roche Bobois undertakes either to make an equivalent proposal, which the interested party must accept, or to give the interested party its consent to the commercialization of the project by the third party.
- Agrees that the organizer edits the project in accordance with the Roche Bobois 2010 Spring international Congress. A edition contract for the project will be proposed to each winner.
The Roche Bobois Group will sign a contract covering intellectual properties rights and their commercial development in case the project becomes part of the Roche Bobois collections. Roche Bobois has the right to modify or develop the project concerned after signing this contract.
Otherwise the winner’s projects will be considered as free for public release.
All candidates authorize the organizer committee to publicize or communicate their projects through media such as newspapers, magazines, television, internet, books, catalogues or exhibition, etc, and to use the winner’s personal image, without limitation of time and without them conferring any right to any remuneration.
iii.Exemption Clauses All elements submitted to the organizer committee for each project will not be returned. The organizer committee may not be held liable for the loss, theft or damage to the candidates’ projects and will therefore not pay any compensation.
The organizer committee will not be liable to any candidate or third party for any indirect, incidental, special, unplanned or consequential damages for participation in this contest, without limitation, profits or other immaterial losses.
iv. Dispute
Candidates to the contest are deemed to accept these rules unreservedly and without exception. Any dispute of any nature relating to these regulations or to the contest will be resolved by the organizer committee solely in the spirit of these rules, in his sole discretion and as final resort. Candidates certify the authenticity and truth of any information provided to the organizer committee pursuant of these rules. The organizer committee reserves the right to eliminate any project which includes any misleading or inaccurate statements.
Within the laws of the People’s Republic of China, the organizer committee reserves the right to change these terms at any time. With respect to any unsolved issues about this contest, the organizer committee will complete the rules and provide interpretation.
