Su Dan,
Dean of Environmental Art Design Dept., Fine Arts School of Tsinghua University, Secretary General of Environmental Art Design Professional Committees of Chinese Artists Association, and Vice Presidents of China Ming-style Furniture Research Society, graduated from Dept. of Architecture of Harbin Architecture and Engineering College, then received his master's degree from Central Academy of Art and Design. He has been teaching in Environmental Art Design Dept. of Tsinghua University as the Dean since 1993. His major published works include: Additional Design, Endemic, Architectural Design Fundamentals and Engineering Drawing, etc., as well as dozens of academic articles published in various types domestic and foreign papers collections and magazines. For presiding decoration design of a number of large-scale public constructions, he has been invited to participate in many international arts activities.


Being fighting perennially in the front-line of design education industry, Su Dan understands deeply the inescapable foundation stone for the rise of Chinese design - Education oriented, devoting considerable efforts and energy to this subject, which had a late start in China. Design is a category that combines sense and sensibility, art and technology. Aiming at the particularity of ‘design’, Su Dan jumps out of the traditional education mode of other disciplines, finding a unique way especially for Chinese local design learners. He focuses on inspiring the learners ideologically to understand ‘design’ itself correctly, so that they have a fundamental understanding of the meaning of design to social development, exerting their own energy to Chinese education, and laying a solid foundation for design industry’s future progress and development.
