Alan Chan,
Born in 1950, Alan Chan is one of the few Hong Kong-trained graphic designers who has achieved international recognition. The only academic training in graphic design that Chan received was merely a ten-month evening course in Hong Kong back in 1970, and yet during his 34 years in advertising and design, he and his company have won more than 600 local and international awards, including awards from the Communication Arts (USA), the New York Art Directors Club, D & AD (UK), the Tokyo Type Directors Club, Japan Typography Association, the Hong Kong Designers Association, the HK4A's and many others. In 1989, Alan was named Designer of the Year by the Hong Kong Artist Guild. In 1996, his company was selected by the Graphis Press in New York as one of the Graphis Ten Best design firms in the world. In 1997, his posters and watch designs were included in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art as Permanent Collection of Architecture and Design. To give due recognition to his significant contribution to the design industry, in 2002, he was awarded Medal of Honour (M.H.) by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
