ID：您是如何理解自然与不自然？
How do you comprehend the natural and unnatural?

宋刚：“自然”不等于“不不自然”。“不自然”不能和“自然”组成事物的全集。“不自然”是另外一种事物存在的状态，和自然没什么关系。

“Natural” is not “un-Unnatural”. “Unnatural” and “Natural” cannot complete the whole. "Unnatural" is another status quo, and has nothing to do with Nature.

ID： 四位优秀的青年建筑师联合创办“竖梁社设计机构”，能否解释为什么会使用“竖梁社”？这代表什么意思？
Four brilliant young architects co-founded the Atelier cnS. Could you please explain the meaning of the name?

宋刚：竖梁社来源于湘北农村建屋最后一道仪式性的工作，房屋的最粗的横梁搭建完后，会有一个热闹的庆祝。但横梁竖起来，正准备履行作为屋子最重要的一个部分的时候，这种状态充满着庄严和想象。

The name of cnS literally means a vertical beam. It comes from the ritual ceremony of building construction in northern part of Hunan province when the last horizontal beam is set up, as vertical beam, to be the spiritual part of building.

ID：在你们工作室的介绍中有一句话：“不单致力于为快速发展的中国城市提供独特视角的设计，也致力于数字化生成设计与数字建造技术的先锋探索。”能否介绍一下什么是“数字化生成设计与数字建造技术”？
There is a sentence in the introduction of your atelier: “not only dedicate in particular design for the rapid-grew cities in China, but also the digital design and construction”, could you please introduce the word “digital design and construction”?

宋刚：数字技术生成，指的是采用数字化的工具建立一个形式的自我逻辑，就像计算机一样，去算出某种形态；数字建造，则指采用包括CNC milling，3D Printing，Multi－points Forming等生产工具去把数字化的形式物质化出来，是一个em-material的过程，就是一个形式的生产过程。

Digital design refers to the implementation of digitized tool sin creating self-generating forms for architectural design. Digital construction refers to the use of fabrication tools, include CNC milling, 3D Printing, and Multi-points Forming, to build up generated forms by computer, which is em-material process, redefining a new production agenda for geometries.

ID：能否谈谈您这次“不自然2”的创作方向？
Could you please talk about the creative direction of the "unnatural" ?

宋刚：思路很简单，建立一个算法，在一些矩形体量的中间生成很多泡泡，布尔运算后的形体是一个计算机计算的结果，会让人有假山的文化想象，是一个我们理解的“不自然”的过程。

Concept is very simple. An algorithm is used to generate a lot of bubbles in the middle of a rectangular volume. After Boolean calculation, a unique form, a fake-stone-like in Chinese Garden, is created, which we deemed as “unnatural” process.
