ID:您是如何理解自然与不自然?
How do you comprehend the natural and unnatural?

曾光:既然神创造了自然,神的儿子便创造不自然。创造力是神赋予人的少数特权之一,当然还有发明力。假如我们将“发明”归之于科学,“创造”归之于艺术,那么,艺术——便有理由成为与神对话的天梯。

God created the natural world, while his sons have been creating the artificial world. Creativity and invention are privileges God gives to man. If we classify "invention" into science, and "creation" into arts, then, it will be reasonable for us to have arts as a high ladder between God and man.

ID:艺术家与建筑师有不同的观看角度,请问您对于"岭南建筑风格”有什么样的看法?
Artists have different viewing angles with architects. How do you think about " Lingnan Architectural Style "?

曾光:所谓风格,即“个性”。建筑风格是由地缘因素和人文因素共同构成的。岭南多雨,潮热,而且大都是历朝历代由内地越过南岭,迁徙到“南蛮瘴气”之地。建筑必然慢慢适应了岭南水土,而又烙上很深的祖居建筑因素,加上族群能工巧匠的聚集,形成了珠三角建筑,潮汕建筑,客家建筑,碉楼建筑,雷州建筑等特点。典型的岭南建筑就慢慢形成了防水防潮、通商、耕读、观赏功能于一身,精巧细致、曲水绿荫、中西合璧的庭院风格。随着时代发展,建筑形式也在变化。但新的岭南风格似乎还未形成。因为风格的形成需要在长期积累中慢慢的沉淀。现代建筑共性多,个性还没形成,也就无从谈风格了。

The so-called style is "personality". The architectural style is constituted by geopolitical factors and human factors. The climate in Lingnan is rainy with hot flashes. The initial immigrants were mainly from the Mainland across the Nanling in the past dynasties. The buildings there must slowly adapt natural environments and climates in Lingnan and keep distinctive construction factors of the buildings in their ancestral homes. Besides, thanks to the ethnic craftsmen, the architectural characteristics of the Pearl River Delta, Chaoshan, Hakka, Watchtowers, and Leizhou formed. Typical Lingnan architectures slowly formed a combination style of Chinese and Western elements. They were waterproof and dampproof courtyards which could be used for trade, study, and appreciation. Surrounded by the winding waters and green shadows, the courtyards were ingenious. As time passes, the architectural form is also changing. However, new Lingnan style seems have not yet formed, because the formation of a style shall be precipitated slowly in the long-term accumulation. Modern architectures have much in common, and the personality has not yet formed. Therefore, it’s hard to talk about styles.

ID:看懂中国画的意境是需要修炼的,能否请您帮我们介绍一下被广州图书馆收藏的《荷风》这幅作品的意境?
A cultivation shall be developed to appreciate artistic conception of Chinese Paintings. Could you please make an introduction for us about the artistic conception of "Lotus in the Wind" collected in Guangzhou Library?

曾光:中国画跟中国文学、中国哲学息息相关,比兴、借喻是中国绘画语言中用于表达人文理想的常用手法。一篇《爱莲说》颂扬了“士”的精神情操,莲花又跟“佛缘“、“和(荷)谐”联系紧密,荷便成了中国画一个重要题材,就像梅兰竹菊。我用泼墨写意的手法画迎风招展的荷,表达的正是”士“的风骨。读画,既要读笔墨,更要读意境。

Chinese painting has closely associations with Chinese literature and Chinese philosophy. Metaphor is a common technique used in Chinese painting to express humanistic ideals. There were three reasons why lotus became an important theme, like Plum blossoms, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum in Chinese painting: first, lotus was used to celebrate the spirit of the " literati " in the prose named “Lotus” ; second, lotus was associated with the "Buddha“ because of lotus throne ; third, the Chinese pronunciation of lotus was same with “harmony”. I painted lotus fluttering in the wind with technique of splash-ink to eulogize the literati’s strength of character. When appreciating a painting, we shall not only appreciate the painting itself but also s the artistic conception in it.

ID:能否谈谈您这次“不自然2”的创作方向?
Could you talk about the idea of your creation in Un-natural II?

曾光:还是离不开我的审美核心——“道“。盘古开天地,轻者为天,浊者为地。“道生一,一生二,二省三,三生万物”(老子)。作品取其义,人于天地中,仰天伏地,拳拳敬畏,生生不息。

圆为柔,柔为轻,变化无穷;方为刚,刚为重,承载万物。刚柔并济,事物便达到和谐。老庄所谓的“一”其实就是“和”。和谐、统一,这是艺术最基本的性格。缪拉认为,一切矛盾得到调和的世界,是最高的美,一切艺术作品,是世界调和的反复。“天地与我并生,万物与我为一”是最高的精神境界,亦是最高的艺术精神境界。

It cannot be separated from the core of my aesthetic -- "Morality". In the beginning of the world, Pangu created the heaven and the earth. The lighter part he called heaven and the heavier part he called earth The Tao begets one; one begets two; two begets three; three begets the myriad creatures (Lao Tse, founder of Taoism). The works took the main idea of Taoism. Human beings live with flourish between the heaven and the earth. They express admirations for the heaven by looking up to her, and the admirations for the earth by bowing with hands folded.

Being round, soft and light, the sky can contain endless changes; being quadrate, hard and heavy, the earth can bear all things. Things in the world achieve harmony because of the perfect cooperation of the sky and the earth. The "one" in Taoism actually refers to “harmony”. Unity and harmony are basic characters of arts. Murat said the highest degree of beauty was to reconcile all the contradictions in the world, and all works of arts were repetitions of reconciling to the world. Both the highest spiritual realm and artistic spiritual realm shall be "I live between the Heaven and the Earth, and I merge with all things on the earth."
