Heng LIU
Doreen Heng LIU received her MArch from UC Berkeley and Doctor of Design at Harvard Graduate School of Design. Her research focuses on contemporary architecture & urbanism in the Pearl River Delta, and the specific impact of urbanization on design and practice in China today.
She established her own practice NODE (Nansha Original Design) in Hong Kong and Nansha, Guangzhou in 2004, and is also chief architectural consultant for the Fok Ying Tung Foundation for the Nansha City development. Her built architectural works include Nansha Science Museum, Nansha Bookstore, Guangzhou Times Museum, Lianzhou Int’l Photography Festival Permanent Site & etc. Her and her office design works have been published in many international & domestic professional magazines including Architectural Record, Domus and Abitare, etc. She and her office also have been invited to participate in various architectural and art exhibitions including Venice Biennale and Rotterdam Architectural Biennale, Shanghai Biennale, Guangzhou Triennial, Shenzhen & Hong Kong Architecture & Urbanism Biennale, and etc. She is currently also teaching at School of Architecture, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, as Adjunct Associate Professor.
In 2012, Doreen with her firm NODE is nominated as one of six international emerging architects for Audi Urban Future Initiative (AUFI) awards. The final winner will be announced in October this year.
